On the other side the average tuition fees for a higher education in Italy are between €850 and €1,000 per year (very rarely exceed €1,500), depending on the university and education course of study. In some cases, students are even exempted from paying tuition fees depending on their financial situation and academic performance. Some private universities as Bocconi (http://www.unibocconi.it/) or LUISS (http://www.luiss.it/) similar in some way to the IVY league American Colleges might be considered more prestigious in some specific disciplines and have higher tuition fees, usually in the range of US$ 10,000-15,000 that are still very convenient if compared to the $50,000 and up of these Elite School’s tuition fees.
Regarding the cost of living in Italy, it varies considerably depending on the location but it is in general cheaper than living in most part of the US, especially in the College metropolitan areas. Considering the costs of accommodation, food, telephone, local travel and leisure in Italy, students should consider a monthly budget of between €1000 and €1500. But in same cases it is even possible to reduce the living cost budget at only 500/800€ per month. Compared to the US where, (according to the College Board), the average cost of tuition and fees are $32,405 at private colleges, $9,410 for state residents at public colleges, and $23,893 for out-of-state residents attending public universities. Adding then, the room and board the average goes from $11,052 for a comunity college to $42,419 for private non-profit four-year colleges.
The bottom line is that attending college in Italy is extremely convenient and it is a great investment for you and your kids: for a 4 years college degree the cost of studying in Italy is approximately only €10,000/15.000 compared to the US where the average goes from $45,000 to $170,000 for a saving of almost 1700%.
